Key rules

  • Hydrocarbons. The Hydrocarbons Law 17.319 was amended by the Bases Law 27.742. Onshore oil and gas projects of US$600m or more can now apply to RIGI under Decree 105/2026.
  • Glaciers. Law 27.804, passed 8 Apr 2026 and promulgated by Decree 271/2026, was published on 24 Apr 2026 (Boletín Oficial 35.896). It amends the Glaciers Law 26.639, which restricts activity in glacial and periglacial areas and matters for high altitude mining.
  • Mining. Mining is governed by the Mining Code and the Mining Investment Law 24.196. Under the Constitution, mineral resources belong to the provinces, so permits are granted provincially.

We have not yet summarised what Law 27.804 changes in detail. Provincial mining and environmental rules are not covered.
